The Secretary of State has now confirmed the decision by Waverley Borough Council to approve planning permission. The case will not be called in by his department and work can now being to restore Undershaw.
“I was delighted to help by buying the site and we are determined to build on Stepping Stones’ solid foundations to create a truly outstanding special school which shines out as a role model for others to follow. We will give full access to the local community and to Conan Doyle enthusiasts so they can enjoy the facilities and heritage at the Undershaw site that wouldn’t be possible if it was a private house.” David Forbes Nixon (DFN Foundation)
“Stepping Stones School has grown and developed an expertise around the 'deeper learning' that is needed for young people with specific special needs. We look forward to enjoying new facilities that will allow our students to grow and flourish in a truly unique setting. Our trans-disciplinary team work tirelessly to ensure both academic progress and emotional resilience for each young person. The new school building at Undershaw will ensure that these wonderful young people have the very best opportunities to achieve their potential.” Melissa Farnham, Headteacher
