Shakespeare Week

William Shakespeare left messages for all the pupils and staff last week in the hope that as many people as possible would do something to celebrate his life and works. And he was NOT disappointed.

Under Lisa’s support and guidance, a huge majority learnt quotations from their favourite Shakespeare plays and on Friday afternoon, with the hall decked out like The Globe Theatre, we were all entertained and enlightened by everyone’s fascinating contributions. Louisa’s class were a delight to watch, bringing a sense of both solemnity and humour to the proceedings. Then, in small groups, famous lines were enjoyed from the acclaimed genius that is ‘Shakesey’ who hits the English curriculum with a passion on a regular basis. Our volunteer Jorrit presented an especially moving portrayal of the despairing Macbeth and Marcos was (happily?!) dragged up to the stage by Lisa to deliver the opening and very apt line for him from ‘Twelfth Night’, causing ripples of laughter from the audience. “We must keep this in the calendar,” enthused Louisa who especially enjoyed the afternoon. A huge thank you and well done to everyone who participated. Sullivan House gained the most house points for this humble Inter-house competition.
